Background of the Study
Digital storytelling has emerged as a transformative medium in Nigeria, particularly through vlog narratives that capture personal and cultural experiences. This study examines the impact of digital storytelling on Nigerian syntax, focusing on vlog narratives produced in Abuja. Vlogs blend spontaneous spoken language with digital editing, leading to unique syntactic adaptations that diverge from traditional academic or formal written English (Oke, 2023). Vloggers often modify sentence structures, employ non-standard word orders, and incorporate colloquial expressions to enhance engagement and authenticity (Chinonso, 2024). These syntactic shifts reflect a negotiation between traditional language norms and the creative demands of digital media. By analyzing a corpus of vlog transcripts, the study aims to identify emerging syntactic patterns, assess their frequency, and explore how digital storytelling influences overall language structure. This investigation will also consider the role of interactive media in democratizing language production, thus fostering innovative syntactic constructions among Nigerian youth (Ifeanyi, 2025). The findings will contribute to our understanding of how digital platforms serve as catalysts for language change in contemporary Nigerian society.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing prominence of digital storytelling in Nigeria, there is limited research on its effect on syntactic patterns, particularly in the context of vlog narratives. Most studies on digital media and language focus on lexical innovation, overlooking the syntactic adaptations that arise in informal, online storytelling formats (Nwogu, 2023). This gap makes it difficult to ascertain the extent to which digital platforms drive syntactic innovation and how these changes impact overall language clarity. Without systematic examination of vlog narratives, the influence of digital storytelling on traditional syntactic structures remains underexplored (Ifeanyi, 2024). This study aims to address these issues by providing a comprehensive analysis of syntactic patterns in Abuja-based vlog narratives (Chinonso, 2025).

Research Questions
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it examines the intersection of digital media and language evolution by analyzing the syntactic impact of digital storytelling in Nigerian vlog narratives. The research provides valuable insights into how digital platforms reshape language structures and offers practical recommendations for educators and media professionals. These findings contribute to broader discussions in applied linguistics and digital communication (Oke, 2023; Chinonso, 2024).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to the analysis of Nigerian vlog narratives from Abuja and their effect on syntax.
